7 Ways to Shift from Fear & Scarcity into Gratitude & Abundance

How Our Mindset Impacts Us

As humans, we are creatures of habit. The neural pathways in our brain essentially become "programmed" with patterns of activation based on our most frequent thoughts and behaviors.

Eventually, our brain becomes “addicted” to thinking, feeling, and acting in similar ways, day after day. This creates a complex pattern of repetitive thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that ultimately create our unique individual life experience.

Ultimately, our way of thinking and feeling becomes our default way of being. Our way of being influences the way we see ourselves and the way we perceive the world around us.

Problems arise when our way of being holds us back from showing up our best in life. Let's explore two contrasting perspectives to see if our mindset is setting us up for success in life.

Gratitude & Abundance vs. Fear & Scarcity

I created this little graphic to illustrate the differences between two contrasting perspectives: Gratitude & Abundance Mindset and Fear & Scarcity Mindset

Take a moment to notice which of the two mindsets appears to describe you most accurately. Keep in mind that we all tend to have a default mindset, but this can shift sometimes depending on our mood, stress level, and/or the situation we are in.

A great way to notice our true default mindset is to observe how we react when things don't go as planned.

I always like to remind myself: it's easy to show up with a smile when all is going great, but how do you show up when life gets difficult? This is what matters most.

Most importantly, remember that all of this mindset training is simply a tool to allow us to look at ourselves more clearly so that we can begin to create change from within. This is not a tool for us to judge ourselves in a negative way or feel ashamed for not being perfect.

In order to experience personal growth, we have to be able to observe ourselves honestly and without judgment. This type of work is done out of self-love and with a goal of self-improvement.

If we are unaware of our mindset, then we cannot do anything to change it.

If we are aware of our mindset, then we can practice releasing any thought or behavior that is no longer serving us.

Shifting into Gratitude & Abundance Mindset

THE BEST NEWS is that we all maintain the capacity to reprogram our minds and change the way we think about ourselves and the world around us.

I know this from personal experience— each of these practices that have helped me transform the way I think, feel, and perceive the world around me.

I've come up with 7 techniques to help you shift your mindset into Gratitude & Abundance. Keep in mind that this is not just a "one time thing" or a "quick fix" solution.

Think about it like this: it typically takes years of programming for Fear & Scarcity Mindset to become our default way of being. Therefore, you can also expect that it could take years of reprogramming for Gratitude & Abundance to become our default way of being.

Yes, this is a practice that requires patience. Rest assured that life will test us many times when we least expect it!

7 Ways To Practice Shifting Into Gratitude & Abundance

DAILY MOVEMENT IS KEY
Emotions = energy in motion stored in the physical body
Lack of movement = lack of energy flow
Lack of energy flow = stagnation
Stagnation = negative energy held in the body

GRATITUDE
Make a habit of gratitude daily for things big and small. This will help train the mind to stay focused on the positive. Remember that you are ENOUGH and you have an incredible power to create anything you want in life.

When you notice that you are only observing what is lacking in life, come up with 3 things that you are grateful for in that moment and choose to direct your attention towards those things instead.

ATTENTION PLACEMENT
Practice focusing on what you CAN control and practice releasing worries of things that are OUTSIDE of your control. This requires constant mindfulness!

Next time you start worrying about something, notice if there is any action you need to take regarding your worry. If there is an action to take: take action and then release the worry.

If there isn't any action to take, then practice simply releasing the worry from your mind and direct your attention towards something positive.

AWARENESS OF THOUGHTS
Notice your default mindset and thinking patterns. Once you notice that you are in a negative loop, practice asking yourself: “Can I choose a different or higher thought that supports me better?” This is where change begins—by making a conscious choice in the present moment. Of course, you will have to do this again, and again, and again to begin to reprogram your mindset.

RELEASE
Open your heart to embrace change. Change is the only constant in life— the more we resist it, the harder we make life for ourselves. It's a simple concept, but it can be hard to implement during challenging times. Remind yourself to keep your heart open to change to avoid unnecessary suffering.

KEEP LEARNING
When you face challenges, try to stay mindful. Connect with your inner warrior and open your heart to face the challenge ahead. Ask yourself “what can this challenge teach me today?” or "How can I be a badass and solve this problem right now?

Remember that there is no such thing as failure if you learn something. Contemplate some recent failures and/or challenges you've had to overcome and ask yourself "what did I learn from that situation?" Practice doing this for all failures and challenges you encounter in life and make sure you don't stop searching until you find the lesson in all of them.

CHOOSE LOVE
Choose to love yourself as the imperfect human you are! Fill your life with things that make you happy to be alive. Choose to take action towards your goals daily to create the life that YOU want to live. Each day, take small steps to become the best possible version of YOU.

The Practice Begins Now

Ready, set, go! It's time to implement.

The techniques I've described above are a bit paradoxical in the sense that they are all quite "simple" in theory, but the real world application is a whole different story.

Emotions, thoughts, and behaviors create some pretty powerful life experiences. Often times it can be very challenging to change our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors, especially when we first begin to notice them.

Like any skill, training the mind requires practice and patience.

If there is one thing that I can promise you, it's that: although this work is not easy, it is worth it. Training your mind to default into Gratitude & Abundance Mindset will help set you up for success in everything you do. It will also help to improve your quality of life in all areas.

One of my main goals is to train myself to continue to show up through the good and the bad, while minimizing my negative reactions to create a happier and less stressful life experience overall.

As I continue to work to reprogram my own mindset, it is my greatest hope that I can provide you with the tools you need to practice doing the same.

Hugs and love! Wishing you all the best on your journey.
